Race 3 should have been an Abbas-Mustan film, not Remo D'Souza's

You've seen the Race 3 trailer. You've probably scratched your head, trying to figure out the sense behind the dialogues. And of course, the songs from the film would've left you at a loss for words.

Let's be blunt. Going by what we can see, Race 3 looks so bad, that it might just be good. There's no doubt that the film will rake in its 300 crore at the box office, because which Salman Khan film doesn't?

Race 3 is the third installment in the Race franchise and has been directed by Remo D'Souza. The previous two films, which had tasted success at the box office, had been helmed by the popular director duo Abbas-Mustan.

WHY ABBAS-MUSTAN WAS REPLACED BY REMO

For a while, reports were doing the rounds that Salman would come on board for the film, if only Remo D' Souza directed the film.

In a recent interview, Salman had a different version. Apparently, Abbas-Mustan had approached Salman, who was also working with Remo, Daisy Shah and Jacqueline Fernandez for another film.

"We wanted to make Race 3 bigger and better than the previous two parts Race and Race 2, and that's what has happened here with Race 3. The movie was earlier supposed to be helmed by Abbas-Mustan but they had creative differences with producer Ramesh Taurani over the canvas of the film. So, that's why he changed the film's casting as well as the director," Salman said.

NOT THE BEST IDEA

Abbas-Mustan are known for their slick and fast-paced thrillers. Cutting through Bollywood's usual clutter, they've made a name for themselves with films like Baazigar, Badshah, Race, Aitraaz, Ajnabee and Humraaz. Despite their various duds, they're still a name to reckon with at the box office.

Coming back to the Race franchise, both the films made business at the box office, even though the second film received mixed reviews from critics. Yet, never had any of the films been trolled to such an extent, and neither did the story seem so completely vague from the trailer. And the songs were usually enjoyable, or even hummable.

That can't be said for Race 3. The film seems to be completely banking on Salman Khan, more so than anything else. It seems like wanton desperation, as even in every song, the spotlight is on Salman Khan.

Like Salman coolly admitted a while back, Race 3 is a Salman Khan film. And it has the trademark inanity and scant logic, that most of his films do.

OUT OF REMO'S COMFORT ZONE

Remo D' Souza is more comfortable in making dance films like ABCD and ABCD2, which have done good business at the box office. However, when he tried doing something that was out of his comfort zone like A Flying Jatt, the film crashed and burned at the box office.

So taking on the reigns of a thriller franchise, isn't Remo's cup of tea, clearly. And if this point cannot be reiterated enough, the film is just banking on Salman and his popularity. Not just this, it is believed that Salman might have directed many parts of the film.

What can you expect then? Race 3 looks like it's just about high-octane action scenes, shirtlessness, and a thriller squeezed in, somewhere in between.
